Take it from here Let go of what you can’t change

Have you ever felt like your life stagnated? A heavy feeling of dullness.

I have, and it SUCKS!

Before I even noticed I found myself no longer excited about new challenges. Low on creative juices. Dragging myself out of bed every single morning.

I wanted to avoid doing even the things I liked—reading or listening to music.

And that’s when it started to get interesting.

Trying to figure out what the hell was going on, I’ve started paying frequent visits to the past. Searching for clues.

Depending on the situation, visiting the past can produce a very positive outcome—such as closure.

In my case, the frequent trips to the past were to try to find a motive.

  • Why was I living this situation?
  • Where did I slip to land where I was?
  • What decisions did I make?

Lost in a sea of questions.

I wasn’t trying to find someone to blame, nor was I trying to find an excuse. I was just trying to find comfort.

And that’s how you make a bad situation even worse: Getting your head stuck in the past.

Fortunately, I was able to perceive that I was heading in the wrong direction. But this is a dangerous road to travel.

Forgiving the past

It’s important to learn how to forgive whatever is in your past. You can’t change that it happened. No one can.

The best you can do now is to learn from it. Use it to avoid repeating the same mistakes, or to avoid putting yourself in a vulnerable position again.

Revisit and cherish the good memories.

Let go of what you can’t change.

The best place is where you are, the best time is now

We easily forget that our time here is limited. We go on acting as if we had all the time at our disposal. You may not have another day to tell a person how important she or he is to you, or to forgive someone.

All you’ve got is today!

Stop waiting for the right circumstances to do whatever is it you have to do.

Sometimes all you have to do is start. It’s important to have the courage to do it—specially if you don’t feel ready. Every day is a new beginning, as cheesy as it may sound, it’s true.

Be fully present, take your life from here.

Today.

Episode 15: Let go of the past

I’ve touched this subject on episode 15 of my podcast. In case you want to check it out, the video is embedded below. Thanks!

  1. Hey Rod, I didn’t know you had that personal development website AND podcast as well, I’ve checked out a few of your audios and it’s really cool stuff man!

As for the points you mentioned here, being tied to the past is like having an anchor that won’t let you move fast enough. Sure thing, past actions define what what you’re doing today is what really counts.

There’s no better time than RIGHT NOW…

Loved this bit from your article => “Sometimes all you have to do is start.”

    • Hey Sergio,

I hope everything is grand with you man.

The 1 Minute Tips site enabled me to bring to life a podcast, something I’ve had on the back-burner for a very long time. It worked out fine because of the length. Although it’s quite tricky to squeeze anything to a one minute mark, I’m relaxing a bit on the time limit, sometimes stretching it to 2 minutes.

It’s working out well, I’m slowly achieving the main goal of improving my pronunciation. Still a long way to go.

“Sometimes all you have to do is start.”

It’s funny because this phrase went unnoticed to me while writing, until I saw your tweet. I’m finding this to be the truth, based on my own experiences, at least.

I will message you on FB about something. 😉

      Cheers!
